UNESCO inscribed China’s traditional tea-processing techniques and associated social practices in 2022.
What the reference establishes#
The inscription concerns knowledge and practices around tea cultivation, processing and drinking. The decision names green, yellow, dark, white, oolong and black teas as six categories. Recognition of a cultural practice does not certify a particular retail product’s provenance, quality or health effects.
Questions to use in practice#
At a tasting, ask for the product name, producer and processing category. Record what you actually observe in that sample rather than assigning one flavour to an entire category. If a host explains a local custom, attribute the explanation to that setting; do not turn it into a rule for every household in China.

The questions are newly written editorial guidance. This article is not a personal visit report, a complete recipe, a dietary certification or a verified biography.
