Claims connecting the Xia dynasty with archaeological evidence need their reasoning and source made explicit.

What the source supports#

In a 2019 interview, archaeologist Xu Hong discusses the search for Xia and the interpretation of Erlitou. He distinguishes archaeological definitions and historical questions rather than treating every inference as a directly inscribed fact.

Evaluating the evidence#

When reading an identification, separate the excavated object, its dating and the interpretation linking it with a named dynasty. Ask whether a claim is direct textual evidence, an indirect argument or a traditional narrative. Do not invent an exact royal chronology to fill gaps in the evidence.

Scope#

These questions are editorial suggestions. This short introduction does not invent a historical scene or claim to settle a disputed interpretation.
